The Community Card is a payment card programme through which associations and membership organisations can offer a new and valuable service to their members and customers.
With the Community Card money is loaded in advance so there is no credit and no overdraft, as with credit and debit cards. Since credit checks are not needed, organisations can offer cards to all their members without the risk of seeing some of them turned down.
With the Community Card programme
- your organisation can provide a card for members and benefit from scale
- people with no bank account can access the full financial services market
- members have access to cheaper goods available on the Internet without the risk of divulging their debit or credit information online
- parents can provide a card for their children to use and introduce them to the responsible use of plastic
- customers and partners have complete control over their spending and don't need to use cash
- the card can be tailored to suit the needs of your organisation
The card is provided by The Community Card Ltd and Newcastle Building Society, one of Britain's leading building societies. It is part of the Maestro® network which allows for purchases online, by mail or phone and from over 960,000 outlets in the UK.
The merits of the programme are discussed in more detail in the who is it for? and why be involved? sections of the website.
